Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday described Savitribai Phule as a great social reformer who dedicated her life to the transformation of society through service and education.
“On the birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule, we remember a great woman who dedicated her life to the transformation of society through service and education,” Modi said in a post on ‘X’. He said Savitribai Phule was dedicated to the principles of equality, justice and compassion.
The Prime Minister said Phule strongly believed that education was the most powerful instrument of social change and he dedicated his life to transforming people’s lives through knowledge and education.
Modi said Phule’s work in caring for the underprivileged and marginalized remains an inspiring example of service and humanity.
The Prime Minister said that Phule’s vision will continue to guide the nation’s efforts in building an inclusive and empowered society.
Savitribai Phule, wife of noted social reformer Jyotiba Phule, was born in Maharashtra in 1831 and is considered by many to be India’s first female teacher. She played a pioneering role in educating women, especially women from deprived groups and that too at a time when women’s education was not given much importance.
