Punjab: Congress suspends party membership of Navjot Kaur Sidhu after '500 crore' statement

According to an official order of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Congress leader Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu was suspended from the party with immediate effect on Monday. This suspension was done after Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s statement of ‘Rs 500 crore’ for the post of Chief Minister.

Speaking to ANI, Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said it was unfortunate that such comments were made. He said that Navjot Singh Sidhu was also made the PCC President, which is a bigger post than the Chief Minister. He also accused Navjot Kaur Sidhu of refraining from campaigning for the Congress when Priyanka Gandhi came to the constituency of current Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann during the elections.

He said, “It is unfortunate that he made this comment. He should first tell how much he paid for the post of PCC president. Everyone knows that the Chief Minister is also subordinate to the post of party president. The party is supreme. When Congress workers were struggling in the state, he did not speak a word for 3.5 years and when the elections came closer he started making these statements… When Priyanka Gandhi went to Chief Minister Bhagwat Mann’s constituency, why did she not campaign for the Congress? This was the indiscipline of the party. Such people, Punjab No one else is a threat to the party.”

Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that Navjot Kaur Sidhu has exposed the reality of the Congress model to the people of Punjab, and also that if someone from her party becomes the Chief Minister, he will definitely be involved in corruption. He also accused former Congress leader and now BJP president Sunil Jakhar of being involved in corruption while in the Congress.

Speaking to ANI, Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said, “According to his statement, it means that the Chief Minister is for sale in the Congress party. Whenever someone becomes the Chief Minister by investing Rs 500 crore, it is obvious that he will loot the state. This is the model of loot of Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party. Sunil Jakhar was also in this party… He remained a mute spectator and the Congress party kept doing corruption in front of him. Therefore, he should clarify his role. Is he also in that race? Were involved?…”

Navjot Sidhu on Sunday said that he can turn Punjab into a golden state, but he does not have “Rs 500 crore” to give to any party and sit on the Chief Minister’s chair. Meanwhile, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi alleged that the Congress is completely immersed in corruption.

Trivedi said, “Today Navjot Kaur Sidhu, a senior leader of the Congress party in Punjab and wife of former Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu, said that anyone in the Congress party can think of becoming the Chief Minister only if he has Rs 500 crore in his suitcase… It has become very clear that corruption in the Congress has reached such a level that from the leaders to the government and the party, the Congress is completely immersed in corrupt practices…” Trivedi said.

Criticized Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi over the “500 crore” comment made by Sidhu.

He said, “This is a direct allegation of corruption against Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi…Today, it became clear that the corruption model of these two leaders is at the forefront…It means that whoever gives a ‘briefcase’ or ‘suitcase’ filled with Rs 500 crore can become the Chief Minister…” He further said that the Congress party follows the model of corruption and inspires its workers to live with high-end facilities.

He further said, “This means that from Karnataka to Himachal Pradesh or any state, the Congress party elects as Chief Minister only that person who can provide the briefcase of Rs 500 crore to the Gandhi-Vadra family… This shows that their leadership model is a model of corruption, under which they loot their own workers for their luxurious lifestyle… Now we understand that even after being in the opposition for so long, the standard of living of the Gandhi-Vadra family has deteriorated. Why hasn’t there been any change at all?
