New Delhi. Jammu and Kashmir Police today took a major action and raided the office of Kashmir Times newspaper. During the investigation, AK-47 rifle cartridges, hand grenade pin and some other suspicious items were recovered from the office. The State Investigation Agency (SIA) of Jammu and Kashmir Police carried out this raid due to allegations of involvement in anti-national activities. An FIR has been registered against the newspaper’s editor Anuradha Bhasin. All the recovered items have been sent for forensic examination, currently the investigation is going on.

Kashmir Times is the old English daily newspaper of the state, although its editing has been stopped for some time. This newspaper was started by Ved Bhasin as a weekly newspaper in 1954, later it was made a daily newspaper in 1964. After the death of Ved Bhasin, his daughter Anuradha Bhasin and son-in-law Pramod Jamwal started running it. Both Anuradha Bhasin and Pramod Jamwal now live abroad. Even before this, Kashmir Times office was raided on charges of publishing anti-national material and the office located in Press Enclave on Residency Road, Srinagar was sealed for some time in the year 2020.

On the other hand, this raid action has been criticized by the newspaper management. A joint statement issued on social media by Prabodh Jamwal and Anuradha Bhasin said that the raid on our office in Jammu, baseless allegations of anti-state activities and coordinated action on Kashmir Times is another attempt to silence us. He denied that criticizing the government was tantamount to behaving in a hostile manner towards the state. He said that it is very important to have a strong and tough questioning media in a healthy democracy.
