Worker Sonam Wangchuk ended her 15 -day hunger strike on Wednesday after a clash in Leh over the demands of the state status and the Sixth Schedule to include Ladakh.
At a press conference, the Wangchuk announced the decision as a precautionary step to bring stability in the region. He believed that his protests could lead to violence in Leh, so he decided to stop the movement. Wangchuk condemned the protest and appealed for peace in the region. He said that no party is involved in this protest, because he believes that no party is so strong that it can organize the youth.
Wangchuk said, “This incident has disrupted our peaceful protests, which had been going on for the last 5 years. We were indicating from the youth that they feel that the path of peace is not working. Today’s incident was the result of such things … No party in Leh was so strong that it was so strong that they could organize a large number of youth. Saw … I understand their frustration in the last five years, but I condemn their way of opposition. “
Earlier, activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been a pioneer in this movement, appealed for peace and told the youth to “stop this nonsense” because violence only “harms their purpose”.
Wangchuk shared a video on X and wrote, “I am very sad with the events of Leh. My message of peaceful route failed today. I appeal to the youth to stop this nonsense. This only damages our purpose.” In the video, in the video, Wangchuk appealed to the youth not to adopt the path of violence and said that this makes their efforts to the rights of Ladakh. He said that the incident of two people hospitalized gave rise to widespread outrage.
He urged the government to be more sensitive to Ladakh and accept their demands. “Today, on the 15th day of our fast, I am very sad to say that there was widespread violence and sabotage in Leh city. Many offices and police vehicles were set on fire. Yesterday, two people who had been fasting for 35 days had to be taken to the hospital. Given the youngsters came out.
He said, “I appeal to the younger generation of Ladakh not to follow this path of violence because it fails my five -year efforts. I have been fast for so many years, marching peacefully and then resorting to violence; this is not our path. I request the younger generation to contact the government through peace. If such a situation arises, I urge the government to be sensitive about Ladakh and this (violence) path is not the result of his anger.
The people of Ladakh are demanding to include the Union Territory in the sixth schedule of the Constitution. The sixth schedule of the Constitution includes Article 244 (2) and 275 (1), which states, “Provisions related to administration of tribal regions of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram states.” Meanwhile, there is a demand for state status for Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir since the cancellation of Article 370.
