SpiceJet's Leh bound flight makes emergency landing in Delhi, pilot takes decision after engine failure

A SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Leh had to return shortly after take off. On Tuesday morning, flight SG-121 received indications of a technical fault, after which the pilot immediately decided to make an emergency landing at Delhi Airport. There were about 150 passengers on board the plane and the good thing is that everyone was evacuated safely. The incident occurred in the morning when the plane was moving towards its destination.

Flight returned due to engine failure

According to the information, this incident happened on Tuesday (February 24) at around 6:30 am. There was suspicion of some technical problem or malfunction in engine number 2 of the Boeing 737 aircraft. Soon after this, ‘full emergency’ was declared at Indira Gandhi International Airport. Keeping security in mind, ambulances and fire brigade vehicles were also deployed. The pilot acted wisely and landed the plane safely at Delhi airport at 6:45 in the morning.

Arrangement of second plane for passengers

SpiceJet said the plane landed normally and there were no warnings of fire in the cockpit. All passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft. The airline has arranged for an alternate aircraft to take the passengers to Leh. At present, a team of engineers is examining the aircraft to find out the exact cause of the malfunction. The safety standards for flying on hilly routes like Leh are quite strict, so the pilot thought it best to land the plane back without taking any risk.
