Janashakti Janata Dal (JJD) will announce its candidates for the Bihar assembly elections on October 13 (Monday), party founder and former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav said on Saturday. Yadav himself will contest from Mahua assembly constituency, the same seat he had won in the 2015 elections while in the RJD.
“I will announce my candidates the day after tomorrow. There will be big announcements the day after tomorrow… I will contest from Mahua,” the JJD founder said. When asked if he was talking to other parties too, he said, “Everyone is coming to meet me.”
Tej Pratap Yadav is the son of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. He was expelled from the party and the Yadav family on charges of serious violation of moral and social values after a controversy erupted over one of his Facebook posts in which he claimed to be in a long-term relationship with a woman. After this controversy, social media was reminded of their marital dispute which had made headlines a few years ago. Tej Pratap had claimed that his account was hacked.
Yadav was married to Aishwarya, the granddaughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Rai. However, after a few months, Aishwarya left the house alleging that her husband and in-laws had thrown her out of the house, and the couple’s divorce petition is pending in the family court.
Tej Pratap Yadav founded JJD after his expulsion from RJD. Currently, Mahua constituency, from where Tej Pratap is going to contest, is held by RJD leader Mukesh Kumar Roshan. The first phase of Bihar assembly elections will be held on November 6 and the second phase on November 11. Counting of votes will take place on November 14. This upcoming election contest will be between BJP and Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) led NDA and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) led India Bloc led by Tejashwi Yadav.
However, not only is JJD a new player in the Bihar election battle, but Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj has also staked claim on all 243 seats in the state.
