An intelligence alert has been issued in the capital, warning of a possible terrorist threat near the Red Fort. Sources say that terrorists may target a temple located in Chandni Chowk area.
According to intelligence sources, major religious places including the areas around the Red Fort and parts of Chandni Chowk remain the target of Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Information received indicates that the group is planning an improvised explosive device (IED) attack and a temple located in Chandni Chowk area could be a possible target.
Sources further indicated that the organization is reportedly trying to avenge the February 6 blast at a mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan and possibly planning a major attack in India.
Intelligence sources said, “A blast alert has been issued in front of the Red Fort in Delhi. Terrorists may target a temple in Chandni Chowk. Lashkar-e-Taiba is planning an IED attack. They are planning a major terrorist attack in India to avenge the February 6 mosque blast in Islamabad, Pakistan. Lashkar-e-Taiba may target major temples in the country.”
Sources further said that major temples in the country could be targeted by Lashkar-e-Taiba, indicating that major religious places remain the group’s target.
The incident comes in the backdrop of the deadly car blast near Delhi’s historic Red Fort on November 10, 2025, which killed 12 people.
An explosion caused by a car packed with explosives near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro station set fire to several vehicles nearby.
Recently, a special NIA court located at Patiala House Court on February 13 extended the investigation period by another 45 days to complete the investigation in the November 2025 Delhi blasts case.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had sought an extension of 90 days to complete the investigation. Meanwhile, the NIA court has extended the judicial custody of 7 accused till March 13.
