The United Nations Security Council has called an emergency meeting in view of the increasing tension between Israel and Iran. This important meeting is being held at the request of France on Saturday, 28 February 2026 at 10 pm (Paris time). After the sudden worsening of the situation and military action in the Middle East, the eyes of countries around the world are fixed on this meeting. The main objective of this discussion to be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York is to maintain peace in the region and prevent a major war.

Why was the meeting called and what is the latest situation?
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot informed that the situation in the Middle East is serious, so the Security Council should meet immediately. According to reports, Israel had carried out an air attack on a defense system (SA-65) in Kermanshah area of Iran. In response to this, Iran has also shown a tough attitude.
Iran’s Foreign Minister and Ambassador have called this attack illegal and said that Tehran is ready to go to any extent for its security. At the same time, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has appealed to both sides to stop the attacks immediately so that common people are not harmed.

The direct impact of this tension is visible on common travelers and migrants. Many flights going from India to Gulf countries have been disrupted. Due to security reasons, Air India Express has stopped its westbound international flights till March 1, 2026.
