President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated the Indian Under-19 team for winning the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup title for a record sixth time by defeating England by 100 runs in the final played in Harare, Zimbabwe. The young Indian team gave a record-breaking performance in the thrilling final. Opting to bat first, India posted a mammoth score of 411/9 with Vaibhav Suryavanshi playing a brilliant inning of 175 runs with the help of 15 fours and 15 sixes in just 80 balls.
Captain Ayush Mhatre added 53 runs in 51 balls, while Abhigyan Kundu contributed a quickfire 40 runs in 31 balls. England’s Caleb Falconer played a brilliant inning of 115 runs, but the visiting team failed to achieve the huge target of 412 runs.
President Draupadi Murmu heartily congratulated the team on its tenth win and said, “Hearty congratulations to Team India on winning the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup 2026 for a record sixth time! Remaining undefeated throughout the tournament, the team has brought glory to the country with its brilliant performance. I wish a bright future for the talented young players. I am confident that Indian cricket will progress even further.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter, “India’s cricket talent is shining! Proud of our U-19 team that has won the World Cup. The team performed brilliantly throughout the tournament and showed exceptional skills. This victory will also inspire many young players. Best wishes to the players for their upcoming endeavours.”
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said, “Young India – World Champion India. Hearty congratulations and best wishes to the Indian cricket team on becoming the Under-19 Cricket World Cup champion. Our team has made millions of Indians proud by performing brilliantly. This moment will provide new energy and immense inspiration to the youth power of the country. Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted on the 19th, “Congratulations to our young champions as Team India has won the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup. Your brilliant performance in winning the Cup for the sixth time and setting a new record has filled the young players with joy, enthusiasm and inspiration. The entire nation is celebrating your victory.”
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also congratulated the team and said, “Hearty congratulations to the Indian team for its historic victory in the ICC Under-19 World Cup. By winning this title for the sixth time, our youth have demonstrated their extraordinary talent and dedication. This victory reflects the remarkable courage and unwavering resolve of young India. Hearty congratulations to the entire team for this wonderful achievement.”
Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said, “Hearty congratulations to our Under-19 men’s team on their spectacular victory in the World Cup! Your composure, fearlessness and determination are the hallmark of today’s Indian generation. This sixth Under-19 World Cup title is a proud testament to the future of Indian cricket.
India’s stellar performance also set a new record for sixes in a Youth ODI final, with 31 sixes – far more than the previous record of 23. With this victory, India won the Under-19 World Cup in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018 and 2022, while England has not got a chance to win its second title since 1998.
