The Parliamentary Committee said that the number of air passengers traveling under the regional connectivity under the flight scheme was 33 lakh in 2021-22, which has come down to only 20 lakhs in the financial year 2022-23 till 31 January 2023. The committee has asked the Ministry of Civil Aviation the reason for the decline in the number of passengers traveling under the flight plan. The committee has also asked the ministry to give a plan to increase the number of passengers under the scheme to 30 lakhs under the scheme in 2023-24. The committee said in its report that in 2017-18, the number of passengers traveling under the Regional Passenger Scheme was 3 lakhs.
Which increased to 12 lakhs in 2018-19. In 2019-20, 31 lakh people benefited from this scheme. In 2020-21, the number of passengers has come down to 1.5 million. But in 2021-22, this number increased to 33 lakhs again. But 2022-23 saw a decline in the number and it was only 20 lakhs.
