Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming Assam elections, declaring that the people of the northeastern state are eager to bring the BJP government to power once again and the party will get an overwhelming majority of over 90 seats.
Speaking to reporters after participating in a road show in Guwahati, the Union Minister announced that the BJP will form the government in the state with more than 90 seats.
“We are going to form the government in Assam for the third time with an overwhelming majority… The people of Assam are eager to form the Bharatiya Janata Party and NDA government. We will form the government with more than 90 seats,” Shah said. Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a massive road show in Guwahati today, drawing huge crowds as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its campaign ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.
Shah’s road show was enthusiastically attended by supporters, with supporters lining up on the streets to catch a glimpse of him. Expressing his gratitude for the support, Shah also showered flowers on the crowd and boosted the morale of the party workers. This strong show of strength is being seen as the political campaign gains momentum in the north-eastern state. Voting for all 126 assembly constituencies will be held in a single phase on April 9. According to the Election Commission of India, counting of votes will take place on May 4.
There will be a contest between the BJP-led NDA government and the Congress for the 126-seat assembly in Assam. The BJP government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will try to come to power for the third consecutive time, while the Congress will aim to return to power by defeating the ruling party. The Chief Minister of Assam will contest from his traditional Jalukbari constituency.
