UP police on high alert in border districts, helpline number released for Indian citizens trapped in Nepal

Amid the ongoing unrest in Nepal, the Uttar Pradesh government has instructed the police administration to stay on high alert at all times in the border districts of the state. The state government has also issued helpline numbers to help the trapped Indian citizens. Acting on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Krishna has ordered the police to stay on high alert for 24 hours.

Additional police forces have been deployed to further strengthen the security system in the border districts of Uttar Pradesh. Patrolling and monitoring has been increased to ensure quick response in emergency. Meanwhile, a special control room has been set up at the Police Headquarters in Lucknow to help the Indian citizens trapped in Nepal. Three helpline number 24×7 will remain on-(0522-2390257, 0522-2390257, 052222-2724010, 9454401674).

The social media unit of the police has been instructed to continuously monitor sensitive information and posts related to Nepal and take immediate action if needed. Meanwhile, Nepali President Ram Chandra Paudel called on Tuesday to find a peaceful solution to the ‘Jane Z’ movement running through a conversation with the protesting citizens, The Himalayan Times said.

President Paudel emphasized that Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli’s resignation has already been accepted, so the nation should focus on resolving the crisis of any other bloodshed or destruction, the Himalayan Times cited an official statement of the President.

He said, “I urge all the parties to remain calm, do not harm the country and come to the table of negotiation for dialogue. In democracy, the demands raised by the citizens can be resolved through negotiations and talks.” This appeal came after violent demonstrations for several days, in which the protesters outside the federal parliament have killed at least 19 people and were injured in the firing of protesters outside the federal parliament. The protesters later attacked the major government institutions including the Parliament House and the President’s Office at Sheetal Niwas.

According to the Himalayan Times report, the Nepal Army has also issued a public request urging citizens, especially the youth, and urged to protect the historical and cultural heritage of the country.

Chief District Officer Vishwa Prakash Aryal said that the order was issued when the protests turned violent, resulting in arson and sabotage in public property, government offices and private properties.

According to the report of the Kathmandu Post, the movement, meetings, rallies, demonstrations, meetings and demonstrations under curfew have been banned so that protests can be neutralized. The protesters are also demanding to lift the ban on social media platforms, which they consider to be an attempt to suppress freedom of expression.

Curfew was imposed in several cities including Kathmandu to control the situation. The government banned 26 major social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and YouTube citing the need for misconception and the need for regulatory compliance. Citizens considered it a way to attack freedom of expression and suppress disagreement.
