Ankita’s mother demands CBI investigation under the supervision of Supreme Court and justice for her daughter.
Ankita Bhandari’s family is adamant on demanding a CBI investigation under the supervision of the Supreme Court in the murder case. The family wants the investigation to be under the supervision of the court because CBI comes under the control of the central government. The family says that justice is still incomplete as the main ‘VIP’ named has been released. Speaking to Outlook, Ankita’s mother Soni Devi said, “How can we be satisfied with the investigation? Whereas the VIP has not been caught and important aspects of the case have been ignored.
The Ankita Bhandari case has again come into limelight after allegations by Urmila Sanwar, a woman who claims to be the second wife of former BJP MLA Suresh Rathod. Sanwar had released a video clip last month, which he said included a conversation with Rathore, in which he allegedly identified a ‘VIP’ present at the Vantara resort on September 18, 2022. A 19-year-old receptionist was murdered the same day.
On January 8, the Chief Minister had demanded an apology from the opposition after a new audio allegedly of actress Urmila Sanwar surfaced. After that, in a video, Sanwar called senior BJP leader Dushyant Gautam an alleged VAP. Dushyant Gautam has filed a defamation case against Sanwar and others making such claims, including Congress. Seeing the growing controversy, Chief Minister Dhami met the Bhandari family on January 7. The family said that this meeting was arranged in a hurry. According to Ankita’s mother, the Chief Minister assured her that her demand for a CBI inquiry would be seriously considered. Ankita’s mother says, I will keep fighting to get her justice. My fight is not only for my daughter, but also for the safety of other young girls. My daughter will never come back. But I am fighting so that other girls who go out to study or work do not have to lose their lives. I am fighting for my daughter’s respect.”
After meeting with the Bhandari family, Dhami announced that the Government Nursing College at Dobh (Shri Kot), Pauri, will be renamed as Late Ankita Bhandari Government Nursing College Dobh. Ankita’s mother said that this step will keep her daughter’s memories alive. “My daughter defended her honor like a soldier,” he told Outlook over the phone. Just like a soldier protects the country at the cost of his life, Ankita also protected her self-respect.“

He added, “She will not be coming back.” But if a nursing college is built in her name, at least her memories will remain with me.” Describing this struggle as bigger than her family, Ankita’s mother said that this fight now belongs to countless young women and Ankita represents this fight.
He said, “This fight is no longer just for our house. This is for our daughters, for the dreams she left behind. Only when those dreams are fulfilled will I feel that my daughter is with me.
Ankita’s mother says, she lost her life but she kept fighting till the last moment. She was really brave. I will work as hard as I can to get justice for such a brave girl. Once the CBI investigation is approved under the supervision of the Supreme Court, then all those who want to give another color to this murder will be exposed.
