According to government sources, social media platform X has admitted its mistake and acknowledged the shortcomings in its content moderation standards. It has also told the Indian government that it will fully comply with Indian law and work as per the rules.

The issue came to light after concerns were raised over the proliferation of obscene and sexually explicit content on the platform, including content allegedly generated or transmitted through its artificial intelligence tool, Grok.

According to government sources, around 3,500 obscene materials have been blocked and more than 600 accounts have been deleted. The platform has also assured that it will not allow obscene images in future.

Last week, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology sent a notice to the Chief Compliance Officer of India operations of

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi criticized social media platform

In his post he alleged that the move could lead to unauthorized misuse of photographs of women and children, putting them in danger. He said the platform was making money from reprehensible behavior under the guise of creativity and innovation, and described it as a ‘shameful use of AI’.

Earlier on January 1, Priyanka Chaturvedi had written a letter to Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav expressing concern over the alleged misuse of artificial intelligence tools to post objectionable pictures of women using fake accounts on social media platforms.

She said such practices were a serious violation of women’s privacy and urged the Center to take immediate steps to protect their rights.

In the letter, Chaturvedi wrote, “I would like to draw your attention to a new trend emerging on social media, especially And there is gross abuse of the AI function.”

He added, “What’s worse is that Grok is encouraging such behavior by acceding to such requests. This is a violation of women’s right to privacy as well as unauthorized use of their photographs, which is not only unethical but also criminal.”

Priyanka Chaturvedi has urged the Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology to take decisive action against social media platform X and implement security measures in AI-based tools to ensure the safety of women online.
