Khandwa, Beed (Rep. of New Zealand). The coal crisis has started deepening again in the Sant Singaji Thermal Power Project. In such a situation, the operation of four units of 2520 MW capacity has become a challenge for the project management. The stock is depleting rapidly due to the arrival of only about 70 percent coal in the project as compared to the requirement. Considering the current stock and arrivals, coal may run out in a week. In view of this gradually the load of the units is being reduced. In this, the power generation has been reduced from 1800 to 1900 MW.
In Singaji project, 30 to 32 thousand metric tonnes of coal is required in 24 hours to run four units at full capacity (2520 MW), while the arrival is 18 to 20 thousand metric tonnes. There is a stock of 90 thousand metric tonnes of coal in the project. Experts believe that in such a situation, two out of the four units of the project may have to be closed. This will also reduce the power generation by half. The shortage of coal can deepen the power crisis in the state during the summer. Project management says that recently on February 4, the project had created a record by producing 30 MW more (2550 MW) of power than the capacity of the four units. But now due to shortage of coal, it is becoming difficult to run all the four units simultaneously.
In 20 days the production has come down to 1800 MW. According to the data, the number three unit is setting a record of running continuously for 112 days. Meanwhile, it was closed for only 28 hours. Similarly, unit number one is also generating electricity continuously for 95 days.
If the supply does not increase, then the situation will be like four months ago
If the Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited, MPPCGL and the state government do not pay attention to the supply of coal in time, then they may have to face a crisis like four months ago. Had to do In October 2021, due to shortage of coal, only one to two units were running here. Due to this, electricity was being produced only around 1100 MW.
Demand will increase in summer season
Summer has started in the state. At the same time, the work of threshing of wheat and gram is also going on. Hence, the demand for electricity is increasing. Shortage of coal can become a problem. Experts say that in the coming days, apart from the festival, the consumption of electricity in the state will increase in preparation for the Kharif season. In such a situation, 15 to 17 thousand MW power will be required in the state. If the supply of coal does not improve, the situation may go awry.
rising coal consumption
It is taking more than 700 grams to make a unit. In a supercritical unit, 620 to 650 grams of coal should produce one unit of electricity. But 700 to 730 grams of coal is being spent here. Due to this the electricity generated here is getting expensive.
Electricity is also being made from Indira Sagar Dam
Apart from Sant Singaji Thermal Power Project in the district, power generation from Indira Sagar Project is also being done by running seven machines in the machine hour, due to which about seven million units of electricity are being generated. The water level of the dam is also decreasing due to power generation. The water level on Wednesday was 254.76 metres. Experts say that if the power generation from the dam is done in the same way, it may also face water crisis during the summer days.
Continuous efforts are being made for coal supply from the Project Department and MPPGCL Headquarters. And the senior officers and at the government level have also been informed. If the supply of coal is not large, then the power generation will be affected. About 90000 metric tonnes of coal is left. AK Sharma, Chief Engineer Singaji Project
