Former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener has re-joined the Zimbabwe senior men’s national team as batting coach. The Zimbabwe Cricket Board confirmed his appointment during a meeting held on Monday. After the meeting, Craig Irwin was made the captain of the Zimbabwe cricket team in limited overs. Sean Williams will lead the team in cricket’s biggest format Test.
“Lance Klusener will replace Stuart Matsikeneri in the support staff. Matsikeneri has now been appointed as the assistant coach. Lalchand Rajput continues as the head coach of the national team,” said an official statement issued by the Zimbabwe Cricket Board. ” Lalchand Rajput was the manager of the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup in 2007.
Lalchand Rajput was made the coach of the Mumbai Indians team in 2008. He was appointed as the coach of Afghanistan team in 2016. Lalchand Rajput played two Tests and four ODIs for India. He scored 105 runs in Test matches and nine runs in ODIs. Talking about first-class matches, he scored 7988 runs in 110 matches. His average was 49.30. During this, 20 centuries and 46 half-centuries were scored. He also has 59 wickets to his name.
Talking about Klusener, he previously served as Zimbabwe’s batting coach between 2016 and 2018. Until recently, he was the head coach of the Afghanistan national team. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Cricket is in the process of finalizing the appointment of a bowling coach and a fitness trainer for the men’s national team.
Klusener scored 1906 runs in 49 Test matches for South Africa at an average of 32.86. He has 3576 runs in 171 ODIs. He scored four centuries and eight half-centuries in Tests. At the same time, he has two centuries and 19 half-centuries in his name. Klusener was brilliant in batting as well as in bowling. He took 80 wickets in Tests and 192 wickets in ODIs.
