Who pays Zakat?
If there are five members in the family and all of them earn money through job or some business, then it is considered obligatory for everyone to pay Zakat. For example, if someone’s son or daughter earns money through job or business, then those parents cannot avoid paying Zakat on their earnings. In any family, it is obligatory for the earning son or daughter of the head of the family to pay Zakat.

Fitra is the amount that people from well-to-do families give to economically weaker people. It is necessary to offer it before Eid namaz. Fitra money is also given to the poor, widows and orphans and all the needy. The big difference between Zakat and Fitra is that giving Zakat is as important as fasting and offering Namaz, but giving Fitra is not mandatory under Islam. For example, it is fixed to give 2.5 percent in Zakat, whereas there is no limit for Fitra. A person can give any amount as per his financial condition.

There is no harm in giving Zakat to those who are needy and deserving among brother-sister, nephew-niece, nephew, uncle, aunt, aunt, uncle, father-in-law, son-in-law. It is also said in the Hadith that if the Zakat money goes to a needy person, then the giver keeps getting reward or virtue for it.
