Milk prices were increased a few days back. From Amul to many companies selling milk, the price was increased by two rupees. Now once again the common people are going to be shocked. Amul’s managing director says that once again the price of milk may increase. If this happens, then the common people may have to bear another blow of inflation.
According to officials, Amul expects prices to rise due to rising energy, logistics and packaging costs. However, the officials have not yet confirmed that by how much the price of milk will increase by Rs.
In a statement to PTI, Amul’s MD RS Sodhi said that they cannot reduce the price of milk now, but its price will increase. Sodhi said the cooperative has increased prices by 8 per cent in the last two years, including a hike of Rs 2 per liter in milk prices last month.
He further said that inflation in the industry is not a cause for concern. The farmers are getting profit in the produce due to increase in the price. Sodhi says the hike or cost incurred by Amul and the wider dairy sector is very limited.
He added that rising energy prices have affected the cost of cold storage, which has increased by more than a third. Similarly, logistics cost and packaging cost have also increased.
It was for these reasons that an increase of Rs 1.20 per liter was made. He said, emphasizing that the income per liter of farmers has also increased by Rs 4 per liter during the pandemic.
