There has been an uproar after the CJI’s remarks on the CBI. The situation is that now the Law Minister has to explain. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has said that CBI is no longer a parrot in a cage. Earlier governments interfered.
Law Minister Kiren Rijiju asserted that the CBI is no longer a “cage parrot”, but is functioning as the country’s largest investigative agency. He said there was a time when people in government sometimes became a problem in investigation. But now it doesn’t happen.
Rijiju further added that the challenges faced by some officials in the earlier governments are no longer in existence. In a tweet on Sunday, Rijiju said- “CBI is no longer a cage parrot, but is actually doing its duty as India’s top criminal investigation agency”.
Along with this tweet, he has also shared a short video of his speech given at a conference of CBI Investigating Officers. In this video Rijiju can be heard speaking- “There was a time, I remember very well that those who used to sit in the government sometimes became a problem in investigation”.
He further said that today the leadership of the country is with a Prime Minister, who himself is playing a key role in the campaign against corruption. Rijiju said- “I know the difficulties when those in power used to indulge in corruption, then the job became difficult for the CBI. Then we have heard some harsh comments from the judiciary in the past. Now we have come a long way”.
Let us tell you that while addressing the 19th DP Kohli Memorial Lecture of CBI on April 1, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana had said that the credibility of CBI is in danger. Because the actions and inaction of CBI has raised questions in some cases. Due to which people are now looking at it with suspicion.
