In Uttarakhand, the process of losing Chief Ministers, which started with the 2012 assembly elections, continues. This time too, the current Chief Minister of the ruling party BJP, Pushkar Singh Dhami, lost the election while being the Chief Minister. In the state, BJP won the election not from the face of Dhami, but from the face of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi overturned in the last phase of Uttarakhand elections by holding four consecutive meetings.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami lost the election from Khatima assembly seat, Congress’s state working president to party’s candidate Bhuvan Chand Kapri. BJP was contesting elections in Uttarakhand on Dhami’s face. The slogan of the BJP was – Youth Chief Minister, Yuva Udemy. The people may have rejected this slogan of BJP after defeating Dhami, but BJP came back to power by getting 48 seats in the assembly. He broke the state’s record of 20 years that the party which forms the government once cannot form the government for the second time.
In the 2017 assembly elections, the then Congress Chief Minister Harish Rawat lost the elections from both the seats. Earlier, BJP Chief Minister BC Khanduri had lost the election while being the Chief Minister. In the 2012 assembly elections, Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri lost the election from Kotdwar assembly seat to Congress candidate Surendra Singh Negi, who was the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
After that, in the 2017 assembly elections, Harish Rawat lost the elections from two assembly constituencies Kichha and Haridwar Rural while being the Chief Minister and this time Pushkar Singh Dhami lost the election while being the Chief Minister. In 2012, Khanduri lost the elections and the party was reduced to 32 seats. Congress got 33 seats and Congress formed its government in the state. This time Dhami may have lost the election, but the BJP has formed its government for the second time in a row by securing 48 seats.
The BJP has lost nine seats in comparison to the 2017 assembly elections. In 2017, the BJP had won 57 seats and the Congress was reduced to 11 seats. This time Congress has won 19 seats and Congress has gained eight seats as compared to 2017 assembly elections.
