The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday arrested Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) stalwart Nawab Malik. It has been told that the case in which he has been arrested is a case of money laundering related to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. In fact, there are allegations against Malik that he had allegedly bought a property from an associate of Dawood Ibrahim at a much lower rate than the market price and also concealed the information related to it.
Meanwhile, AnyTV is telling you what are the allegations against Nawab Malik and what clarification has been given by Nawab Malik himself on this whole issue.
Nawab Malik was accused of having relations with whom?
In his press conference on November 9, Devendra Fadnavis had accused Nawab Malik of having links with the underworld. He had said that Malik had bargained land cheaply with two people of the underworld. The two names he mentioned were Sardar Shah Wali Khan and the other Mohammad Salim Patel.
1. Fadnavis had said that Sardar Shah Wali Khan was the culprit of the 1993 bomb blasts, who had cooperated with Tiger Memon, as well as the Bombay Stock Exchange, Mumbai Municipal Corporation, where to keep the bomb. It was he who got RDX loaded in Tiger Memon’s vehicles. He was sentenced to life imprisonment by the TADA court in 2007.
2. Referring to the second person Mohammad Salim Patel, Devendra Fadnavis said that he was a man of Dawood Ibrahim. Fadnavis called him Haseena Parkar’s driver, bodyguard. The former CM said, ‘When Haseena Parkar was arrested in 2007, Salim Patel was also arrested. Records revealed that after Dawood’s absconding, the properties which were accumulated in Hasina’s name. His power of attorney was with Salim. This Salim Patel was the head of the entire business (land possession) of Hasina.
What is Malik accused of buying land from the underworld?
1. Fadnavis alleged that there is a three-acre site on LBS Road in Kurla, which is a very expensive area. A registry of this land was done in the name of a company named Solidus which belongs to the family of Nawab Malik and is owned by a person named Malik Faraz. According to Fadnavis, it was sold by Sardar Shah Wali Khan and Salim Patel. The land was sold to the Solidus Company.
2. The former CM of Maharashtra said that the price of the land was very high, yet it was bought for only 30 lakhs, out of which only 20 lakhs were given. Of these, 15 lakh went to Sardar Shahwali Khan, while five lakh rupees were given to Mohammad Salim. The BJP leader had asked that Nawab Malik was a minister in the government when the deal was struck in 2005. How did the deal happen? Why was the land bought from the criminals of Mumbai? The former CM further said that TADA was imposed on these culprits at that time. As per the law, the property of the TADA convict is confiscated by the government. Was the TADA accused’s land not confiscated, so it was transferred to you?
3. Fadnavis said that the family of Nawab Malik showed the value of this land to be Rs.3.5 crore. So that the stamp duty has to be paid less. When it came to paying for it, it was priced at Rs 25 per square foot, but the payment was made at Rs 15 per square foot. Fadnavis said that when Nawab Malik had bought that land, the ready reckoner rate there was Rs 8,000 and the market price was Rs 2053 per square foot. Thus three acres of land was bought for just Rs 20 lakh. The deal began in 2003 and ended in 2005.
What was Nawab Malik’s response to the allegations?
1. Terming Fadnavis’s allegations as baseless, Nawab Malik had then retorted saying that the land being mentioned, his family had already taken that land on rent for a godown. It was later owned by Solidus. The original owner of the land was Munira Patel, who herself came forward to sell the land to us. However, he had given the power of attorney for his land to Salim Patel.
2. Regarding the allegation of links with Shahwali Khan, Malik had said, “His (Shahwali’s) father was a watchman in the land we bought. He had somehow put his name in the property records and claimed about 300 meters of land. When we came to know about it, we paid for it separately.”
It is worth noting that Solidus Investments Private Limited, through which all these deals were done, was set up in 1973 by the family of Nawab Malik. Presently Nawab Malik’s son Amir Nawab Malik and his wife Mehjabeen Nawab Malik are the directors of this company.
