Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) MPs Kauda Babar, Ahmed Khan, Naseebullah Bazai and Prince Omar on Monday moved a motion to amend Article 1 of the constitution to create a new interim province.
The administration of Gilgit Baltistan is handled by the federal government of Pakistan, which India says is illegal. India has clearly told Pakistan that the entire Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, including Gilgit Baltistan, are an integral part of us.
India maintains that the government of Pakistan or its judiciary has no right to interfere in these areas which have been illegally and forcibly occupied.
‘People of Gilgit Baltistan demanding equal citizenship rights’
The BAP bill states that the people of Gilgit Baltistan have been demanding equal citizenship rights for a long time. The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly has also unanimously passed a resolution on this matter.
In the Constitution Amendment Bill, there has been a demand for provision of three seats in the National Assembly and four seats in the Senate for Gilgit Baltistan. One seat each in the Senate has been asked to be reserved for technocrats and women.
