Srinagar, July 16 (IANS) | Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Srinagar’s Alamdar Colony on Friday. Acting on a specific information given by the Srinagar Police about the presence of terrorists in Alamdar Colony in Danmar area of Srinagar, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by the police and CRPF in the said area, the police said.
Police said, “During the search operation, they were given repeated opportunities to surrender when they detected the presence of terrorists, however, they fired indiscriminately at the joint search party, which was retaliated in the early hours of an encounter. ” “In the encounter, two terrorists of banned terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (self-proclaimed TRF) were killed and their bodies were recovered from the encounter site.”
Police said they have been identified as Irfan Ahmed Sofi and Bilal Ahmed Bhat, both residents of Natipora, Srinagar and are active since December, 2020. “It is pertinent to mention that recently self-styled terrorist organization TRF had shared on social media that terrorists Irfan and Bilal had left TRF and joined ISJK,” the police said. As per police records, both the slain terrorists were part of groups involved in several terror crimes including attacks on Police/Security Forces (SF) and civilian atrocities.
“Both the slain terrorists carried out a series of attacks on policemen, SFs and civilians, including the killing of the PDP leader’s PSO at Natipora on 14 December last year, the attack on the ROP of CRPF 73 Bn at Lavepora on 25 March, Which resulted in the martyrdom of 25 CRPF jawans.” “Also, he attacked police officer Javid Ahmed, who was on leave in Saidpora on June 17 this year, near his house, killing him and on June 22, attacked Inspector Parvez Ahmed at Menganwari Nowgam. According to the police, both the slain terrorists played an important role in motivating and recruiting youth to join terror groups in and around Srinagar. Incriminating material, arms and ammunition including an AK-47 rifle, a pistol and four grenades were recovered from the encounter site. All the recovered materials have been taken into the case record for further investigation and to check their involvement in other terror crimes. Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar has congratulated the joint forces of police and CRPF for the huge success that led to the elimination of two most wanted terrorists, who were involved in several terror crime cases.
