Panaji, July 16 (IANS) | A day before Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s old Facebook account was hacked, hackers have asked a social media user to send money through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payment mode. Sawant on Friday said a police complaint has been filed in the matter, but the person targeted by the hackers, Pramesh Asolkar, said he was still in shock that the social media account of the state chief minister was tapped.
The hacker posing as Sawant and requested Assolkar to send Rs 30,000 immediately which would be returned in two hours. Assolkar said, “At around 9.30 pm on Thursday, I received a friend request information from Pramod Sawant. The profile had a photo of the Chief Minister of Goa and a lotus symbol of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). I was sure it was genuine. ” When the hacker asked him for money, Assolkar realized that something was wrong.
Assolkar said, “People need to be careful with their social media accounts, especially when the chief minister’s account has been hacked.” The Chief Minister also confirmed the hacking of his old Facebook account. Sawant said, “My old Facebook account has been hacked. I have filed a complaint.”
