The Karauli violence that took place on April 2 in Rajasthan still remains a matter of discussion. Bharatiya Janata Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena on Saturday alleged that there has been an exodus of Hindus from Karauli in Rajasthan following the violence on the Hindu New Year. They staged a dharna in Karauli district collectorate on Saturday. The BJP MP demanded that the culprits be arrested and innocent people should not be harassed.
In a letter submitted to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, BJP MP Meena has shared a list of 195 people who have reportedly fled. Although the list does not mention the address of anyone but the father’s name of the persons. In the letter, the BJP MP has said that the exodus has taken place from the Muslim-dominated Dholikhar area and mainly includes people like Jatav, Khatik, Kahar, Dhobi and Kumhar (OBC).
The BJP MP has demanded the Chief Minister of Rajasthan to stop the exodus. The BJP MP has also claimed in the letter that the main accused in the incident has not been arrested, while hundreds of innocent people are being questioned in police stations. It has also been said in the letter that there is an atmosphere of fear in the area.
According to Director General of Police (DGP) ML Lather, till Friday, the police have arrested 23 of the 44 people identified in the main FIR. 37 people were named in the report while the police have identified seven more people based on the video. The DGP said that a total of 10 FIRs including the main FIR have been registered by the Kotwali SHO of Karauli in the violence.
On April 2, on the occasion of Hindu New Year, a bike rally was taken out by Hindus in Karauli, in which some residents of Hatwara Bazar pelted stones at the bike rally, causing tension. After this, the miscreants set fire to many shops, houses and bikes due to which the situation went on deteriorating. After this the administration imposed curfew by imposing section 144 and after that internet service was also stopped. More than 3 dozen people have been injured in this incident. Curfew is still in place in the area.
