Bill to unify Delhi MCD has been introduced in Lok Sabha. BJP and Aam Aadmi Party are seen face to face on this matter. While AAP is demanding to go to the elections in the present format itself, BJP is preparing to conduct elections later by uniting the three divided MCDs. Now Delhi CM and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has said about this that if needed, he can also go to court for this.
CM Arvind Kejriwal said that the Delhi government will study the bill to unite the three corporations. Along with this, he said that if needed, he will challenge it in the court. He said- “The MCD bill is being brought to stop the elections. We will study it and challenge it in court if needed. Reducing the number of wards from 272 to 250 means delimitation, which means no elections. The Bill brings the MCD under the control of the Centre”.
According to the information received, the bill which has been brought in the Lok Sabha will unite the Delhi MCD divided into three parts – East Delhi Municipal Corporation, North Delhi Municipal Corporation and South Delhi Municipal Corporation. This bill has been introduced in the Lok Sabha on Friday i.e. 25 March. The Bill, in accordance with its key provisions, would give full control of the MCD to the Centre.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has termed the bill a “threat to democracy”. Sisodia said- “BJP is killing democracy by stopping MCD elections under the guise of the bill.”
Earlier this month, the Delhi State Election Commissioner had deferred the announcement of the election schedule for the civic bodies after receiving an order from Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal. It was then said that the Center is planning to bring a bill in the budget session of Parliament regarding MCD.
