Patna, July 16 (IANS)| Nine people have died after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Bihar’s West Champaran district in the last two days. The incident is from some villages of Lauria block of West Champaran district. Apart from 9 deaths, many people are battling for life and death in hospitals. Doctors at the hospital said some of the victims had lost their eyesight. According to a villager, he informed the local police about the deaths. He claimed that the police reached the village and forcibly performed the last rites of the deceased.
The deceased have been identified as Bikau Mian, Latif Shah and Ram Briksha Choudhary of village Deurwa, Naeem Hajam of Balui village, Bhagwan Panda of Sitapur village, Suresh Shah of Jogia village, Ratul Mian of Bagahi village and Jhunah Miyan of Gaunahi village. . According to a relative of Suresh Shah, on Wednesday he consumed alcohol and had gone to sell fish in a nearby market. He fell ill in the market and was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
After consuming illicit liquor, some victims tried to hide facts and gave false information in hospitals. West Champaran District Magistrate Kundan Kumar said, “We have received information about the deaths in some villages under Lauria block. We have sent the medical team and the report is awaited.” Champaran range DIG Lalan Mohan Prasad said, “We have received information about the deaths. However, their actual cause is yet to be ascertained. An investigation is underway at present.”
