Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev was attacked by some people on Saturday near Banpur block of Khordha district of Odisha. He is seriously injured. The incident took place when the suspended BJD leader allegedly rammed his car over the crowd, injuring several people. Locals said that more than 10 people, including two policemen, were injured when Jagdev’s vehicle was hit. After this, a large number of angry people, who were present near the Banpur block office, vandalized Jagdev’s vehicle regarding the election of the chairman.
According to reports, Jagdev Chairman Ray was coming to Banpur block for the election. There was a huge crowd in front of the office, but Jagdev allegedly drove his vehicle over the crowd, injuring several people, including a woman policeman on duty. All the injured have been admitted to the nearest hospital. Sources said Jagdev has also been admitted to Banpur hospital in a critical condition and he is likely to be shifted to another hospital.
There is no news of any casualties so far. Khordha police has started investigation into the incident. Heavy police force has been deployed to deal with any illegal situation amid tension in the area. Prashant Kumar Jagdev was suspended from the party by the Biju Janata Dal last year. He was also removed from the post of Chairman of Khurda District Planning Committee.
Jagdev was alleged to have allegedly assaulted BJP President Niranjan Sethi from Balugaon Nagar in front of the NAC office. The incident took place when Sethi was leaving the office after meeting the executive officer. He had gone to inquire about the delay in issuance of work orders to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and payment of old age pension and other welfare schemes.
Niranjan Sethi had alleged that Jagdev slapped him. Later, BJP workers staged a sit-in in front of the police station demanding the arrest of Jagdev. There was a lot of uproar on social media after its video went viral. After this BJD took action and tried damage control.
