Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has set up a SIT probe against Vikramjit Singh Majithia in the drugs case. CM Kejriwal has ever apologized to Majithia on this matter.
The SIT will be headed by AIG Gursharan Singh Sandhu. Majithia was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act on December 20 last year on the basis of the investigation report of a drugs racket in Punjab. The Crime Branch of Punjab Police had registered a 49-page FIR in connection with the case at Mohali police station last year.
The Supreme Court had stayed Majithia’s arrest till February 23 in view of the assembly elections. He then filed a bail application in the Mohali sessions court. But his petition was rejected. After which Majithia surrendered before the court on February 24. After which he was sent to judicial custody for two weeks.
The Akali Dal has termed it as ‘political vendetta’ over these allegations. The party also alleged that police officials were allegedly forced to implicate Majithia. Majithia, who is the brother-in-law of Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and brother of former Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Majithia had contested the Punjab Assembly elections from Amritsar East but lost to the Aam Aadmi Party candidate.
Arvind Kejriwal had once apologized to Majithia for these allegations. In fact, Arvind Kejriwal had accused Majithia of being the head of the drugs racket. After this Majithia went to court against Kejriwal and filed a defamation claim. After which Kejriwal apologized to Majithia. After this the Akali leader withdrew the case. Now that the AAP government has been formed in Punjab, an SIT has been formed against Majithia.
