Sahitya Akademi on Thursday announced the prestigious annual Sahitya Akademi Awards. In which Daya Prakash Sinha for Hindi and Namita Gokhale for English received the award. Apart from this, writers of 18 other Indian languages will get the Sahitya Puraskar. Apart from this, Yuva Awards for 22 Indian languages and Children’s Literature Awards will also be given for 22 Indian languages. The awards announced include 7 collections of poems, 5 short stories and 2 novels and 2 plays, a biography, an autobiography, an epic and a criticism book.
Daya Prakash Sinha for his play ‘Samrat Ashok’, Namita Gokhale’s novel ‘Things to Leave Behind’ in English Literature and Khalid Hussain for Punjabi for his short story collection ‘Sulaan Da Salan’ have been announced. Apart from this, awards for Gujarati, Maithili and other languages will be announced later. Awards in 22 Indian languages have been announced for the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2021. For Hindi, Himanshu Bajpai on his collection of short stories ‘Qissa Qissa Lakhnauva’ on Lucknow’s Awami Kisse, for English by Megha Majumdar on his novel ‘A Burning’, for Urdu by Umar Farhat on his poetry collection ‘Zameen Zaad’ and Veer Devinder Singh has been rewarded for Punjabi for his essay collection ‘Pa De Pailan’. The award in Tamil will be announced later and this year the award in Rajasthani will not be announced.
Awards in 22 Indian languages have been announced for the Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2021. Devendra Mewari for his play-collection ‘Nataka-Natak Mein Vigyan’ for Hindi, Anita Vachcharjani for her biographical book ‘Amrita Sher-Gil: Rebel with a Paintbrush’ in English, Kausar Siddiqui for Urdu for her poetry- The collection has been rewarded for Chaff Flowers. This year awards are not being given in Gujarati and Punjabi language.
The award is given on books published for the first time during 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2019. An engraved copper plate, shawl and an amount of one lakh rupees will be presented to the main prize winner and Yuva Puraskar, children’s literature award winners will be presented with an engraved copper plate and an amount of Rs 50,000 will be presented at a special function to be held later.
