Alok Sharma. Mandsaur
About six thousand farmers of MP, who are cultivating opium, popularly known as black gold, are going through a strange situation across the country. Their fields are filled with opium, but they are not able to make incisions in them. The Central Government has not yet issued any guidelines for the leases granted for extracting opium through the CPS method on the lines of Australia. Due to this, where farmers doing traditional farming are extracting opium daily by making incisions. At the same time, farmers with CPS lease are worried that what will happen if nothing is found after drying the opium. The officials of the Narcotics Department are saying that the government has about a month to extract opium directly from the dode, till then some decision will definitely be taken.
To stop the smuggling of opium and dodachura, the central government is moving towards the CPS method and due to this, about six thousand farmers of Neemuch-Mandsaur district of MP have been given green pattas under this method. The opium of these farmers will be extracted directly from the field by machine. And the remaining crop will be destroyed by rotavator. Now opium has started forming in the dodo and the dodo is full. Farmers are busy guarding it that if parrots or other birds break the bundle, then the opium will be found in the soil below. At the same time, the government has not yet fixed the time limit for how long the balls are to be kept in the field. Apart from this, the company extracting opium with the help of new technology will take away the opium or opium will be extracted in the fields itself.
These farmers have been taken in CPS lease
The Narcotics Department has given CPS pattas to those farmers who were able to give morphine in between 3.7 to 4.2 last year. Apart from this, the leases of 6-6 saws were given to those whose leases were cut due to not completing the average in two years. Their number is 6 thousand in MP and 2237 in Mandsaur district. All these farmers are not allowed to make incisions but have to monitor the crop till the opium is taken by the Narcotics Department.
13813 farmers are doing traditional farming in 531 villages
Here in 531 villages of Mandsaur district, 13 thousand 813 farmers are cultivating in the traditional way. These farmers have got leases of up to 6, 8, 10 and 12 saws on the basis of giving more than 4.2 percent of morphine. All these farmers have also started collecting opium daily by making incisions in the dodo.
Pattas have been given to about 6 thousand farmers in MP through CPA method. Guidelines have not come yet for extracting opium from their fields, but farmers should not worry. The government can take a decision soon.
