IPL Mega Auction 2025: Right now the 17th season of the Indian Premier League is being played, which is now almost towards half. Meanwhile, BCCI has also prepared to take some important decisions for next year’s IPL. The special thing is that there will be a mega auction for IPL 2025 around December this year. BCCI has called a meeting of the owners of all the 10 teams to decide what opinion the teams have for that. Some special decisions can be taken in this. The special thing is that the news that has come out so far shows that now the number of players to be retained before the mega auction can be increased.
Big auction will be held before next year’s IPL
Mega auction takes place in IPL every three years. According to the rules as of now, teams can retain only a maximum of 4 players, the rest they have to release. In this also only two foreign players can remain. Players who are released come back into the auction and are bought by teams. Meanwhile, news has come out quoting Times of India that before the mega auction to be held for next year, the teams want that they should be given permission to retain more than 4 players. It is possible that their number may reach 8.
Team owners meeting to be held in Ahmedabad
The meeting of BCCI and IPL franchise owners is to be held in Ahmedabad next week. Earlier, quoting sources, it has been revealed that most of the teams want that the number of four players which they could retain till now, should be increased. It is said that the teams want to enter the IPL continuously with a core team. When the player whom they groom for three years starts playing well, they are forced to leave, this disturbs the coordination of the teams. Not only this, the purse of the teams to buy players is currently Rs 90 crores, which the teams want to increase to Rs 100 crores.
Not all teams are ready for this, hence there will be a meeting
IPL franchise owners believe that the core of the teams keeps changing and breaking, this creates problems. However, there are some objections to this suggestion, because the teams which have not been able to form their core team, also want to buy big players during the auction. If every team gets a chance to retain 8 players, then about 80 big players will be retained and they will not come in the auction. That means the number of big players to be bought will automatically reduce. This is why BCCI will meet all the franchise owners and try to find some easy way out on this. The date of the meeting had already been fixed, which is the 16th. It remains to be seen what comes out of this big meeting.
