Defense Minister in the Government of India and senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh, in an exclusive interview given to Network18’s Group Editor-in-Chief Rahul Joshi on Friday, completely rejected all the allegations of the opposition parties. He said that there is no connection between the many companies that funded BJP under the now illegal electoral bond scheme and the action taken against them by central agencies.
Regarding the scheme, Rajnath Singh further said that the future will tell what will happen now. Time will tell how right we were in bringing electoral bonds.
Let us tell you that in its historic decision on February 15, a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court had canceled the electoral bond scheme of the central government. The Supreme Court had termed this scheme as unconstitutional due to the possibility of anonymous political funding. Along with this, the Election Commission was ordered to disclose the data of all donors, amount donated and those who took donations.
It is noteworthy that the Central Government had implemented this scheme in 2018. Narendra Modi government had brought this in its Gadget Notification No. 20 on January 2, 2018. So that the system of political funding in the country can be made clean.
During the interview, Singh said, ‘Tell me, I want to ask you only. It should be known which company has donated to which party? Tomorrow they will say that which person has voted for which party, this should also be made public. Would this be acceptable to you? Can this be accepted in any country where there is a healthy democracy? Should it also be disclosed which person is voting for which person of which political party?
Rajnath Singh was asked in the interview, ‘But did these bonds stop the cases?’ He said that there are many companies against which there are charges yet they have donated during the elections. Agencies are doing their work on this. When asked whether there was any connection between the donations coming from these companies after the action, he replied that it should not be seen from this perspective. There is no such relation.
