United Nations: The United Nations (UN) is impressed by PM Narendra Modi’s Digital India program. The UN General Assembly has praised India for running at a fast pace on the path of progress due to the initiative of Digital India. Besides, huge investment in infrastructure in India has also been appreciated. UN General Assembly President Dennis Francis has praised India’s digitization programme, which has helped in financial inclusion and poverty reduction. He said that this has given the country a comparative advantage and its lessons can be shared with the global community.
Francis, President of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), told PTI in an exclusive interview here, “First of all, I want to say that ever since I returned from India, whenever I talk about India, I think, I remember ‘Incredible India’. I am saying this in all seriousness…and I felt it when I was there.” He said, ”The specific example I can mention in this regard is the use of digitalization in India. ”He mentioned the country’s tourism slogan ‘Incredible India’. Francis was on an official visit to India from January 22-26 this year. During this, he held a bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in New Delhi and also visited Jaipur and Mumbai.
The model of poverty reduction in India was also appreciated
Francis praised India’s digitization program for reducing poverty and bringing millions of people into the formal economic system using just a handset and digitization model. He said digitalization is important because it reduces costs, makes economies more efficient and makes services cheaper. Francis said that this is helping in making the Indian economy more competitive. India clearly has a comparative advantage in this area and there are lessons that can be shared with the international community. He also said that during his visit to India he was impressed by the level of investment being made in infrastructure development across the country. (Language)
