Lucknow. Customs officials have arrested two persons for smuggling 224 grams of gold worth Rs 11.91 lakh at the Lucknow airport. A customs official said that a passenger who reached Lucknow airport from Sharja was apprehended on Friday.
An official said, “Based on passenger profiling, they were intercepted. During scanning of their luggage, a 24-karat gold chain and five magnetic bracelets were found. On breaking the bracelet, 40 small cut pieces of gold were recovered from them. The total weight of gold was 224 grams, which was worth Rs 11.91 lakh.”
The passenger told the customs officer that he had to hand it over to a receiver, who was waiting outside the airport. The person who came to take delivery of gold has also been arrested.
The recovered gold was seized under section 110 of the Customs Act, the official said. The air passengers were arrested under section 104 of the Customs Act.
Both were produced in the court, where after hearing their arguments, they have been sent to judicial custody.
Further investigation is on in the matter.
