Seoul/Washington. The United States has announced sanctions against two Russian individuals and three entities over their support for North Korea’s missile tests. “The DPRK continues to launch ballistic missiles in gross violation of international law, which poses a serious threat to global security,” said Brian Nelson, the Treasurer’s Under-Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.
According to the Treasury Department, he said, today’s action will respond to a network of Russia-based individuals and entities that help the DPRK procure purchases for its illegal ballistic missile systems.
The North had test-fired a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) system in its recent missile tests conducted on February 27 and March 5.
A senior US administration official also said here that North Korea is preparing to conduct full range ICBM tests.
North Korea has maintained a moratorium imposed on nuclear and ICBM testing since November 2017, but said in January that it may consider resuming all temporarily suspended activities.
Seoul also reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to working closely with Washington to strengthen its defense posture against the North’s test of the ICBM system.
