The cost of vegetarian thali has increased in the month of March. Due to increase in prices of onion, tomato and potato, veg thali has become costlier by seven percent on an annual basis. This information has come to light in a survey presented on Thursday by a unit of domestic rating agency CRISIL. According to Bhasha news, CRISIL Market Intelligence and Analysis said in its monthly rice rate report that the cost of non-vegetarian thali declined by seven percent last month due to fall in poultry prices.
High prices of these vegetables played a role
According to the news, the vegetarian thali comes with roti, vegetables (onion, tomato and potato), rice, dal, curd and salad. The price of this thali increased to Rs 27.3 per plate in March, from Rs 25.5 in the same period a year ago. However, the price of vegetarian thali has decreased in March compared to Rs 27.4 in February. The report says that due to less arrivals and low base rate, vegetarian thali has become expensive as the price of onion has increased by 40 percent, the price of tomato by 36 percent and the price of potato by 22 percent on an annual basis.
How is the trend regarding non-veg thali?
According to the report, due to less arrivals, the price of rice has also increased by 14 percent and that of pulses by 22 percent as compared to a year ago. Whereas the price of non-vegetarian thali was Rs 59.2 in the same period a year ago, which came down to Rs 54.9 last month. But its price is still higher than Rs 54 per plate in February.
In fact, due to 16 percent decline in the prices of broiler chicken, the cost of non-vegetarian thali decreased on an annual basis. In the non-vegetarian thali, broiler has 50 percent weight. However, broiler prices increased by five per cent due to the onset of the holy month of Ramzan and higher demand in March compared to February.
