New Delhi. On August 15, 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) to improve healthcare services in the country. Under this initiative, NDHM was launched as a pilot project in 6 Union Territories, providing digital health IDs to more than 11.9 million individuals so far. Additionally, 3106 doctors and 1490 health facilities have registered on the platform. The National Digital Health Mission aims to establish a Unified Digital Health Interface (UDHI), which will facilitate solutions from both public and private sectors, working as a component of the National Digital Health Ecosystem.
What is Health ID?
The goal of Digital Health Mission is to provide better health facilities to the people. Under this mission, every person will have a health ID. While creating the Health ID, the beneficiary’s name, year of birth, gender, mobile number and address are collected and then the Health ID is generated.
What are the benefits of this scheme?
This system can be used to create personalized health records for each individual. It allows various health records, such as records from doctors, health facilities and laboratories, to be accessed by any health care professional with the individual’s consent. Through this, if a person goes to a doctor, the doctor can see with the help of his health ID when he had previously gone to the doctor, what medicines he had taken and what diseases he had previously.
Users will get access to many essential services
This will enable users to search for essential health services like teleconsultation or appointments at laboratories. This system will ensure that only verified healthcare providers are included in the national digital health system. In this way, basic healthcare infrastructure and human resources across the country can be used more efficiently and effectively.
