New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in the Delhi liquor scam case, has not got relief from the Delhi High Court. This is the reason why he has now approached the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is against the Delhi High Court’s decision on April 9 to legalize Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest and detention by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case related to excise policy. The petition filed will be heard today i.e. on 15th April. Arvind Kejriwal’s petition is also included in the list of cases for hearing on the Supreme Court website.
In fact, the Delhi High Court, in a big blow to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, had declared his arrest in the money laundering case valid and had said that the ED has filed a case against him after he refused to join the investigation despite repeatedly issuing summons. ‘Little option’ was left. The High Court has rejected Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest by the ED and his subsequent sending to the custody of the federal agency. This is the reason why Arvind Kejriwal has now reached the Supreme Court.
Let us tell you that this case is related to alleged corruption and money laundering in the formulation and implementation of the Excise Policy of Delhi Government for 2021-22. This policy was later canceled. In this case, former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia and Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh have been arrested. While Manish Sisodia is waiting to get bail, Sanjay Singh has come out of jail on bail and is busy preparing for the Lok Sabha elections.
Recently, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who appeared before the bench of CJI DY Chandrachud on behalf of Arvind Kejriwal, had argued and after this the CJI had said that he will look into the matter on Monday. The ED had arrested Arvind Kejriwal on March 21, just hours after the High Court refused to grant him protection from any punitive action by the ED i.e. the Enforcement Directorate in the money laundering case. The court has sent Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody till April 15 and he is now lodged in Tihar Jail.
