Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: Disease does not enter our body silently. Even if you think that you do not have any disease, most of the people in the world suffer from some disease or the other. A report by Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Center i.e. PGI Chandigarh states that half of the people of Chandigarh have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. This means that dangerous fat has made its home in the liver. Non-Alcoholic means without drinking alcohol. This means that even if you do not drink alcohol, this liver disease can occur. The PGI report found that these people had no previous symptoms, yet these people were victims of fatty liver disease. If non-alcoholic liver disease is not treated, it turns into chronic liver disease and causes problems in the entire body. This can also cause liver cirrhosis.

Head of Liver Department in PGI Dr. Ajay Dasouja Said that this report is an eye opener. The study has found that 53 percent of the people of Chandigarh are victims of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. In the study, blood of those people were tested whose blood samples were taken in the hospital for one reason or the other. Dr. Ajay Dasouja told that these people were unknowingly tested in the blood transfusion department of PGI. Most of them had no symptoms of fatty liver disease. That means he did not know that he had any liver related disease. Dr. Ajay Dasouja told that people all over the world are suffering from fatty liver disease. Therefore India is also not behind in this. In such a situation, every person should get tested for fatty liver disease after a certain age.
Why is fatty liver disease happening?
Dr. Ajay Dasouja told that the biggest cause of fatty liver disease is our wrong eating habits. Apart from this, not exercising creates great problems for the liver. He said that when we eat too much fat like junk food, processed food, things with excess oil, butter, cheese, then most of this fat does not get converted into energy and it starts getting stored in our liver as fat, which Gradually it begins to surround the liver. Therefore every person should avoid unhealthy food. He said that blood test for liver should be done from the age of 25. Every person above 45 years of age should undergo a complete body checkup once a year. If there is any problem in the liver then it should be treated.
How to keep liver healthy
Dr. Ajay Dasouja told that to keep the liver healthy, one should exercise regularly. One should do physical activities like walking, jogging, cycling, swimming etc. daily. Apart from this, healthy food i.e. green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits and whole grains should be consumed. One should get enough sleep and stay away from stress. One should not touch alcohol or cigarettes.
