Brain Health Tips: Too much stress makes a person’s brain prematurely old, know how to keep the brain healthy in this hectic life?

Nowadays stress has become an important part of people’s lives. 70% of the country’s population is constantly under stress, and this results in stress, hormonal changes, poor lifestyle and lack of sleep, which directly impacts our brain. Stress weakens the brain, which can lead to neurological disorders. Dr. Vineet Banga, Director of Neurology, Fortis Escorts Hospital, Faridabad, explains what you should do in your daily routine to keep the mind stable and calm.

Do this to keep your mind healthy:
Eat a healthy diet: Eating a balanced diet rich in nutrients is important for brain health. Foods rich in antioxidants, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals provide energy and nutrition to the brain. Therefore, include leafy greens, berries, fish, nuts and seeds in your diet. Omega-3 fatty acids present in fish like salmon are very beneficial for brain health.

Do regular exercise: Regular exercise improves blood circulation in the brain, which improves memory. Aim to exercise for 30 minutes at least five days a week. Activities like walking, swimming and yoga greatly improve brain function.

Play brain-boosting games: Incorporate activities into your daily routine that challenge your brain. Activities like solving puzzles, reading, learning new skills or playing a musical instrument can help keep your mind sharp.

Sleep: Aim to get 7-9 hours of good sleep daily. Avoid caffeine and electronic devices before bed. Using phone at night can disturb your sleep.

Reduce stress: Stress has a negative effect on the brain. Therefore, to relieve stress, take deep breaths and meditate with closed eyes. Learn about your favorite activities. Spending time with loved ones and taking breaks also helps in reducing stress.
