In today’s high speed life, people are so entangled in their busyness, changing lifestyle and technology that social relationships and deep engagement are gradually decreasing. This directly affects mental and physical health. Experts say that loneliness is as harmful as smoking 15 cigarettes daily. That is, taking loneliness lightly can prove to be a serious threat to life.

Difference in loneliness and social separation

First of all it is important to understand that loneliness and social isolation are not the same thing.

Social isolation means that a person has very little contact with others, does not have people to meet or participate in social activities.

Loneliness is an emotional experience when a person feels that his social relations are unable to meet his need or expectation.

Therefore, a person can feel lonely even while living in a crowd and someone can be satisfied even by staying alone.

Give time to hobbies and interests
Learn painting, music, writing, gardening or any new art. It keeps the brain busy and gives confidence.

Volunteering
Connect with a social organization or community work. This increases connectivity to people and gives satisfaction of contribution to society.

Positive use of online
Use of social media should not be limited to chat only, but increase real meetings through meatup, online class or collective activities.

Meditation and yoga
Mindyfulness, meditation and yoga are helpful in reducing stress and increasing positivity.

Take professional help
If loneliness is very deep and a situation like depression starts, then consult a mental health expert.

Take small steps
Calling an old friend, taking care of neighbors or sending a message daily-these small efforts gradually make a big difference.

Need social and policy initiative

Loneliness is not only a person, but also a problem of society. The government and the community will have to find solutions together.

To increase public places and community centers so that people can perform activities together. Running education and awareness campaign to tell people how dangerous loneliness is.
