The grand swearing-in ceremony of the BJP government has started at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, West Bengal. Suvendu Adhikari, who is going to become the Chief Minister along with PM Modi, has also reached the stage. During this time, an interesting incident came to light. As soon as Prime Minister Narendra Modi came on the stage, he first hugged an elderly person, then touched his feet and hugged him lovingly for a long time. During this time the old man’s eyes became moist. This scene immediately made headlines. Questions began to arise as to whom PM Modi hugged on the stage for the swearing-in ceremony of Suvendu Adhikari.
PM Modi touched the feet of the oldest BJP worker
It is learned that the Prime Minister took the blessings of Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the senior most BJP workers from West Bengal, on the stage. Makhanlal Sarkar, 98, is considered one of the earliest grassroots activists involved in the nationalist movement in post-independence India. In 1952, he joined Shyama Prasad Mookerjee in the movement to hoist the tricolor in Kashmir. During this time he was arrested. After the formation of BJP in 1980, he was made the Organizational Coordinator for West Dinajpur, Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling districts. In just one year, he was instrumental in recruiting nearly 10,000 new members to the party. He served as district president for seven consecutive years, starting in 1981. At that time, this was considered a huge success, because BJP leaders generally did not hold any one organizational post for more than two years.
