Bollywood actor Sonu Sood has helped thousands of migrant workers, students and farmers through his actions during and after the lockdown during the Corona period. Let us know the 7 reasons due to which Sonu Sood became the real life superhero of 2020.
1. Residence for health workers
When the nationwide lockdown was announced in March 2020, doctors and other healthcare workers had to deal with COVID-19. His risk of getting infected had increased during prolonged treatment. Due to his profession, people were afraid and were not ready to give him houses on rent. To provide them accommodation, Sonu Sood opened the doors of his Juhu Hotel in Mumbai.
2. Return of migrants home
The lockdown forced migrants to return to their hometowns. Due to lack of transport facilities, many people set out to cover hundreds of thousands of kilometers on foot.
Being a migrant himself, Sonu understood the plight of the migrants sympathetically. Subsequently, he first arranged transportation for a batch of migrants from Karnataka and helped them reach their hometown safely. During the lockdown, he helped more than 20000 migrants reach their hometowns through various modes of transport – bus, train, or plane.
3. Arrangement of food for hungry people
Due to the Corona pandemic, many industries and businesses were closed, resulting in many people losing their jobs and informal sector workers struggling with hunger.
In those difficult times, Sonu Sood launched Shakti Annadanam in the name of his late father, Shakti Sagar Sood, under which 45000 people were fed daily in Mumbai.
4. Return home of NRI students
Sonu Sood became a savior for a group of Indian students stranded in Kyrgyzstan. Sonu Sood arranged a charter plane for him from Bishkek to Varanasi. About 135 students could return home safely by this plane.
5. PPE Kit for Frontline Workers
Doctors, nurses, health workers and policemen are working as frontline workers for community welfare during COVID-19. Sonu Sood also helped him in his own way. He provided 1500 PPE kits for healthcare workers in Punjab, and also provided 25000 face shields for police personnel in Maharashtra.
6. Employment arrangements
Sonu Sood launched an app and website called ‘Pravasi Rozgar’ to provide employment opportunities to migrant workers in India. This platform connects the unemployed with job providers. Its objective is to train workers with requisite skills so that they can get good jobs as per their skills. Sonu Sood has set a target of providing three lakh opportunities through this effort.
7. Help to distressed farmers
Sonu Sood arranged tractors for the farmers of Andhra Pradesh who had neither bulls nor tractors for farming. Thus, he set a new example by helping the farmer.
