In one of the biggest claims ever made under Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana, a life-saving surgery worth ₹4 lakh was made completely cashless. This reflects the strength of the health model of the Bhagwant Mann government, which is working quickly, effectively and reliably at the local level.
Beneficiary Sukhpal Kaur Age: (37 years), resident of Chandigarh, admitted to PGIMER, Chandigarh due to severe aortic dissection, a life-threatening heart and vascular disease. In this situation immediate surgery was necessary. The estimated cost of treatment, hospitalization and special care was around ₹4 lakh, which would have been extremely difficult for the family to meet in such a short period of time.
As soon as the health card was certified in the hospital, treatment was started without any delay. The entire surgery, under the scheme, was done in a cashless manner with a coverage of up to ₹10 lakh per family. A family member said, “Everything happened very quickly. The doctors told us that the condition was serious and immediate surgery was necessary. It was not possible to raise such a huge amount immediately. Because of the health card, the treatment could start without any delay.”
Throwing light on the medical aspect of the matter, Dr. Sachin Mahajan of PGIMER, Chandigarh said, “Aortic dissection is an extremely serious condition that requires immediate surgery. Even a slight delay in such cases can significantly increase the risk. As soon as the health card is certified under Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana, we can start the treatment without waiting for any financial approval, thereby providing timely and continuous treatment to high-risk heart patients.”
Outlining the government’s policy, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh said, “It is extremely satisfying to save a precious life in a serious case like Sukhpal Kaur’s. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Ji, Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana is bringing real change at the local level, where families are able to get prompt treatment without financial pressure.”
