Chandigarh A hunger strike was conducted on Sunday demanding the decaying roads of ward number 31, bad sewerage system and water pipeline in Deep Nagar area of village Kajhedi. The movement was led by Shakeel Mohammed, deputy head of the minority wing of Aam Aadmi Party Chandigarh, along with the ward dwellers.
Shakeel Mohammad said that there are pits on the roads in Kajhedi, Sector-52 and 61 villages of Ward 31. A complaint has been made from JE to the Prime Minister about this problem, but no action has been taken so far. He said that there is no street in the ward where sewerage water is not overflowing, but the responsible departments are not paying attention to the solution.
Avatar Singh of village Kajhedi said that the water pipeline has not been changed in Deep Nagar area for the last 30 years. Despite all the houses being installed, the pipeline is in a dilapidated condition. He said that this area was released by the order of the Supreme Court, despite this, the administration has not done any improvement work till date.
A large number of wards attended this hunger strike. Avtar Singh, Mamta Canth, Rakesh, Vishal, Raj Core, Babli along with Aam Aadmi Party Chandigarh General Secretary Sunny Olakh, PP Ghai, Councilor Hardeep Singh and the party’s co -in -charge and Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board Chairman Sunny Ahluwalia were also present in the movement.
The ward dwellers warned that if their problems are not resolved soon, they will surround the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation office and sit on fast unto death.
