Imphal, 9 September (). Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Tuesday met five MLAs from the Cookie-community and discussed the possibilities of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Manipur on 13 September. The authorities have confirmed this.
According to the police officer, the meeting was held in Churachandpur, in which the Prime Minister’s visit and necessary preparations at the district level were considered. However, no civil or police officer shared the information regarding the details of the meeting.
According to sources, the Governor, MLAs Nagurusangalore Sanete, Wungjagin Walte, L.K. Haukip, L.M. BJP’s Churachandpur District President Thanglam Haukip met with Khoute and Paolinlal Haukip at the District Deputy Commissioner Office. These MLAs come from Churachandpur and Ferzol districts, which are Cookie-which are tribal dominated areas.
Governor Bhalla on Sunday, BJP MLAs of Imphal Valley area, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, BJP State President, official, was also held with the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Security Advisor and Home Commissioner.
The opposition Congress, while attacking the Governor, alleged that meeting with only BJP MLAs before the Prime Minister’s possible visit is to hurt the dignity of the constitutional post.
Former Chief Minister and Congress Legislature Party leader Okram Ibobi Singh said that it is a violation of democratic norms and is like ignoring the voice of the public. He demanded that MLAs of all parties be included to discuss any issue related to the current crisis.
However, officials and BJP leaders say that the Prime Minister’s visit to Manipur is yet to be finalized from the Prime Minister’s Office. According to media reports, PM Modi will visit Manipur on 13 September. This will be his first tour after the violence between Meeti and Cookie communities in Manipur in May 2023.
According to reports, Prime Minister will inaugurate the 51.38 km-long Barbi-Giranrang new railway project in Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram and will go to Imphal and Churachandpur from there.
A large platform is being prepared at Kangla Fort in Imphal and beautification works are also going on in various areas of Imphal West district.
Meanwhile, the Churachandpur administration has banned the use of drones, UAVs, balloons and other flying equipment in the district in view of the VVIP tour. On September 4, District Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S declared the entire district a ‘no-drain zone’.
Here, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Prime Minister will also be on a two-day tour of Assam on 13-14 September. During this, he will inaugurate the birth centenary ceremony of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika and will inaugurate the official program in Guwahati on 13 September.
