Ludhiana. Cabinet Minister (Power) Sanjeev Arora today announced a detailed “make-over” of power lines across Punjab. Arora said that it has been the main demand of the people during various election meetings.
Project blueprint
Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has launched a special project to upgrade power lines in 87 PSPCL sub-divisions of 13 major municipal corporations, which aims to increase public safety, reduce power safety and to restore cities.
Main part
1. Removal of non-basic wires from PSPCL polls: All dish cables, internet fibers and other non-PSPCL wires will be removed from the polls to increase the safety of the public and monitor the lines and intensify the fault identity.
2. Elevation of the power lines hanging below: Especially to protect against accidents from heavy vehicles, wires will be brought to a safe height.
3. Change of many cable joints: Many joints will be removed and new cables will be continuously installed, which will reduce outage, voltage fluctuations and fire risk.
4. Sealing open meter boxes: Meter boxes will be firmly closed and sealing and saved from seasonal damage and tampering.
Area and rollout
• List of urban corporations: Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda, Phagwara, Mohali, Moga, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot, Abohar, Batala and Kapurthala.
• Total coverage: 87 PSPCL sub-division of the above 13 corporations.
• Pilot Project: Pilot will start at 25 feeders in City West, Ludhiana Subdivision. PSPCL will provide all the necessary materials; Wages (about ₹ 1.2 crore) for the pilot will be given on external contracts so that the work can be done fast. There is a target to complete the pilot within two months. The pilot will include Ludhiana West and selected areas of North.
