Jaipur. “World Haemophilia Day” is celebrated across the world every year on 17 April. On this occasion, Dr. Liaquat Ali Mansoori, Unani physician and Hijama therapy specialist of Sawai Mansingh Hospital (SMS) has shared important information on spreading awareness about this serious genetic disease and its management in Unani system of medicine.
Hemophilia is a genetic disorder in which there is a deficiency of blood clotting factors in the body. Due to this, bleeding does not stop when there is an injury. Dr. Mansoori said that this disease mainly affects men, while women are its carriers. There are two main types: Hemophilia A: This is the most common, caused by a deficiency of Factor VIII (8).
Hemophilia B: There is a deficiency of clotting factor IX (9).
Key Symptoms and Identification
Continuous bleeding from injury.
Internal bleeding with swelling and pain in the joints.
Unexplained bleeding from nose, gums or urine.
Sudden appearance of blue marks on the body.
Unani Medicine and Management
According to Dr. Liaquat Ali Mansoori, although there is no permanent cure for this disease, it can be managed effectively with the Unani method. Unani treatment focuses on increasing the amount of potassium in the body along with blood enhancing medicines, because potassium is helpful in blood clotting.
Major Unani medicines: Medicines like Sharbat e Anjbar, Sharbat Tutsyah, Habbe Mindoja, Sharbat Sinkara, Habbe Bandishen Khoon and Kushta Faulad are used during treatment.
Expert Advice and Precautions: Dr. Mansoori advises that hemophilia patients should avoid physical activities that involve the risk of injury. Also, he stressed that any type of Unani therapy should be taken only under the supervision of an experienced physician.
