New Delhi, May 25 (IANS). 26 May is recorded as an important date in the history of Indian democracy. On this day in 2014, Narendra Modi started a new era in national politics by taking oath as the 15th Prime Minister of the country.

He took the oath of Prime Minister and secrecy in a grand ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. This was not only an occasion for change of power, but was also seen as a sign of a new direction in the country’s politics and governance.

Bharatiya Janata Party got a historic majority in the Lok Sabha elections 2014. After a long time, one party getting absolute majority raised hopes of political stability in the country. An effort was made to promote the manufacturing sector in the country through the ‘Make in India’ campaign. An attempt was made to make cleanliness a mass movement through ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’. Apart from this, schemes like Digital India, Jan Dhan Yojana and Ujjwala Yojana also impacted the lives of common people.

Modi government also played an active role in the field of national security and foreign policy. India attempted to strengthen its presence on global platforms and gave a new direction to relations with many countries.
